Oh, The Places I have Been!

Today I was the guest reader for Mr. Kelsey's third grade class. This is Read Across America Day and also Dr. Seuss's birthday. Paul asked me to read "Oh The Places You Will Go." At first I was pretty nervous. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I am not overly comfortable around kids unless they are ones I know well and even then it is a stretch. But, Paul sent me the book last night and I read over it several times (I didn't want to look dumb in front of a bunch of third graders). I laughed last night when talking to my mom because I was concerned about what to wear! Anyway, I got there this morning and thought it went really well. I was nervous but it was so much fun. After I read the book, they asked me some questions. My personal favorites were "How old are you?, "Do you have any kids?" and "Do you want any kids?" Then one of them asked me what my favorite Dr. Seuss book was and I told them "The Foot Book" (of course) because I have a thing about feet. So, they asked if I could read that and Paul said ok. So, we read the Foot Book and the kids had it memorized. They recited it along with me. It was SO much fun and certainly not like anything I have ever done. I can see how Paul find his job to be so rewarding. I know that they are not always little angels but it is a different environment then sitting in an office all day. Thank you Mr. Kelsey's third grade class for a great experience!

Yes, my students enjoyed it. You did a great job, Rachel. I was impressed with the questions like "How many years do you have to go to college to be a paleontologist?" Wow.

I didn't coach them on their questions either. I thought it was funny when they asked about your future children.
