Poor Tiny...

This past weekend was supposed to be a weekend of nothing for Ben and I. We had absolutley no plans in the world except to have no plans! Friday night we met at Publix and did our grocery shopping for the week. Then we headed home to a good supper (so good, I forgot what I fixed!) and some TV watching. Saturday, I slept till 9am (which is like noon to most people) and I got up and fixed breakfast for us which I NEVER do. We wasted time at the house, I watched my FAVORITE MOVIE EVER (Pride and Prejudice, the A & E mini-series, not the new one) and I made Fajita's for supper. Everything was good until Saturday night about 10:30pm or so. Ben's mom called to say that Ben's dog, Tiny was sick.

Now before I finish this story, I should tell you that Tiny and I have never been the best of friends. She is a Chihuahua and those little dogs with their buggy eyes give me the heebie jeebies. However, over the past couple of months, Tiny and I have bonded...probably because she kept getting out of our yard and I was trying to save her from the three way stop in from of our house. So back to the story, Phyllis called and said she was sick but I thought it was just something she ate. Ben went to his mom and dad's house while I stayed home. Ben called me a little later and said that she was really sick. They talked to the vet and even though I didn't want to, we took her to the 24hr vet. Well, to make this pitiful story a little shorter, we ended up having to have her put to sleep. At this point, I feel terrible and Ben is upset. I scared the Vet (I think) because I had to tell him what we were doing. There was no sense in dragging out the inevitable and Ben and I agreed. SOOOO, anyway it was awful and I hope I never have to do that again.

My weekend of nothing turned out to be sad. Truthfully, the only way to have a weekend of nothing is to be a hermit with no human or animal interaction. I am going to be more thankful for my weekends of something from now on.

Some people get carried away in the way that they treat their pets--and some would do well to treat their fellow human beings as well as they do their pets--but we should never underestimate the bond that can exist between people and their pets as well as the feelings of loss when a pet dies. I'm sorry for Ben.

Sorry to hear about Tiny. I remember how sad it was when we lost Shadow last summer.

I thought about you guys Sunday morning because I remembered Kim called me when you all lost Shadow. It is so sad when you lose a pet like that.

Even though Tiny wasn't in my top list of favorite dogs, I still feel really bad for Ben. I know he loved that dog!

Hey! I'm back again, commenting on the same post because you have not updated in a while! Now, I know you needed time to properly grieve over Tiny and I am not trying to rush that, but really Rachel, we would love to hear from you!!!
